Caption on postcard reads: "The above picture shows Lost River as it is being "lost", after it has flown through Hardy County, West Virginia, for about thirty miles. At this point the river sinks noiselessly under Sandy Ridge in the background and flows under this mountain for a distance of three miles when it reappears and from thereon is called Capon River. During the rainy seasons, the excess water flows around Sandy Ridge and into Capon River, but during ordinary times the river bed is dry below the point shown. In the picture the two young women are standing on dry soil, while a few yards above the river is flowing toward them". Published by Shenandoah Publishing House.
