General Benjamin Franklin Kelley, who settled in Wheeling, W. Va. and was a Union general during the Civil War, is shown mounted on his horse Philippi.
Text on the front and back reads, "This was an undershot water powered mill. The dam was located near the E. H. Simpson property. The mill was owned by William Matlick at the time it burned. The mill was located at Marquess, W. Va. The small part on the right built between 1825-1830."
The students of the Bruceton Mills School pose for a group photograph. The tallest young man is thought to be C. T. Kelly, and the girl on his right is thought to be Dessie Feather.
