Thompson came to Tucker County as part of the Blackwater Boom and Lumber Company, formerly known as the Thompson Lumber Company. He worked there as a secretary and timekeeper until 1907, when the company was bought by Babcock Lumber Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as he was then appointed manager.After the mill closed in 1924, George B. Thompson remained in the community as a local business man and served a term as postmaster of Davis. He also served a term in the House of Delegates as the representative from Tucker County.

Miller was born in 1908 and attended West Virginia University, where she joined a sorority, identified in the photo as Gamma Phi Beta.
