- Founded in 1901 by Miss Emma Alderson as Alderson Academy. Initial enrollment was 40 students in its first year, although 107 were enrolled by the end of the year. In 1911 the school's name was changed to Alderson Baptist Academy and in 1919, Junior College was added onto the name.
