A scene from Spring 1917, as students gather in front of Chitwood Hall protesting the faculty's decision to continue with final exams after the United States had declared war on Germany. Many schools across the country had canceled finals since most male students would be drafted or enlist in quick order.

Students protest the WVU administration's decision not to cancel the spring semester final exams as many other colleges had decided to do after the United States officially entered World War I on April 6th. Most male students would either enlist or be drafted as soon as possible forcing them to leave school before the end of the semester.
