'Morgantown from across the Monongahela River sometime in the late eighties. Note unpaved Walnut Street and the River Wharf. To the left of which can be seen the bell tower on Old Monongalia Academy then used for the public school, and the old Fire Shed jutting out into the street. Property of Jas. R. Moreland.'

'West Virginia University and Morgantown (1891-1892) as taken from a point some distance north of the U. The Catalogue for one of those subsequent years states that Science Hall was finished in 1893, but no sign of it is to be seen in this picture, but the roof was on Commencement Hall, and the Court House was built (1892), which fixes the date about as given above.' 'View of Morgantown & Sunnyside taken from North Morgantown Hill. Note the orchard along Overhill St. also showing the house owned by the Whites nearby.'
'Mechanical Hall by the river, (built 1892-4, destroyed by fire, 1899). Note the small powder house in the foreground. The U. heating plant now occupies the site John L. Johnston was professor of Engineering during this period. The negative was made by Johnston about 1895, is now the department of physics. (1940)'
