Founded in 1901 by Miss Emma Alderson as Alderson Academy. Initial enrollment was 40 students in its first year, although 107 were enrolled by the end of the year. In 1911 the school's name was changed to Alderson Baptist Academy and in 1919, Junior College was added onto the name. In 1932, the academy merged with Broaddus College and moved to Philippi, where the name Alderson Broaddus College still exists. See original for correspondence. Published by Alderson Book Store.
