'CONGRATULATIONS, SCHOLAR--Dr. Vincent J. Traynelis, professor and chairman of the West Virginia University department of chemistry, presents a chemistry reference book to Woodrow P. Corley, electrical engineering sophomore from Clarksburg, for being the most outstanding student in last year's freshman chemistry classes. The award is given annually to the student who scores highest on the department's Chemistry 15 final examination. Out of more than 1,000 students in last year's class, Corley scored highest with a 100 percent grade. He was presented the award in front of members of this year's class.'

Mary Louvinia Brown took the collegiate course at Glenville State Normal School before coming to WVU when her brother , Samuel Boardman Brown, left his position as Glenville Principal to accept a position in geology at WVU. Brown attended WVU for one year, leaving when her brother married her friend, Ella Butcher. She taught in area grammar schools before becoming an instructor of botany grammar and history at East Liberty (Pennsylvania) Normal School from 1891 to 1893. Married in 1894 to Rev. George Bent, she was active in Methodist Episcopal community and Women's Christian Temperance work before she died shortly after giving birth to her second child.
