Portrait of an elderly Dayton. He was involved in the founding of the state of West Virginia, served as a delegate at the first and second Wheeling Conventions, one term in the West Virginia State Senate and State Prosecuting Attorney for Barbour, Randolph, Taylor and Tucker Counties.
