After moving to Logan, County West Virginia in 1857, he later served in the West Virginia House of Delegates (1872-1873).  His son, John B. Floyd represented Logan County, W. Va. in the West Virginia house of Delegates in 1881, in the West Virginia Senate 1883-1885, and again in the House of Delegates in 1893.
