Also at a time when Crow was Raleigh County's largest community and stood fair, in the minds of many, to inherit the Seat of County Government. Crow had a large lumber mill and railroad, (the first in the county) connecting Glade Creek with Beckley. Back row: Emmett Akers, Arminta Kingrey, Anna Ratliff (Mrs. Clarence Neely), Lena Akers sister of Emmett (now postmistress at Crow, W. Va.). This home, with its seven or more acres of rolling hillside, is now owned and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Parker. The number of rooms it contains is almost uncountable" (p. 391).
