Captain Ellsworth Eisenbarth's showboat traveled the Ohio River, advertised as "The Modern Temple of Amusement". Here the steamboat is towed through icy waters by the "Lula F.", built at Palestine, West Virginia in 1890.

Identified subjects: Captain Ellsworth E. Eisenbarth. lower deck, 5th from the left; daughter Ignace, age 7, upper deck 3rd from the left; small child in nurse's arms, son Eugene H. Eisenbarth. Mrs. Eisenbarth died in 1906. An older daughter (later Mrs. R. C. Manhall) was ill and not in photograph. Infant daughter, Julia Pauline also not in photograph, she was raised in Sistersville,W. Va.

The "Duncan Bruce" was a 720 diesel towboat designed and built by the Charles Ward Engineering Works in Charleston, West Virginia.

The contest resulted in the Charles Ward Engineering designed, smaller, twin screw propeller, "James Rumsey" pulling and pushing the steam powered, stern wheel "D. T. Lane", therefore the "James Rumsey" was declared the winner.
