'Gov. Joseph Johnson was one of the distinguished self made men in the early days of Virginia.  He was born in New York in 1785.  Moved to Bridgeport 1801.  Mr. Johnson was a captain in war of 1812.  He spent 22 years in the State Legislature and 12 years in Congress, was appointed by popular vote.  Later elected by popular vote.  He died in 1877 at Bridgeport at the age of 92 years.'

The structure was demolished in 1988; it used to stand on the corner of Rt. 50 and Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, W. Va..
