Postcard reads, "The Audley estate originally embraced 3,025 acres when it was given by Lord Fairfax to his nephew, Geo. Wm. Fairax in 1749. Of this tract Warner Washington, Sr. acquired 1600 acres in 1770. Since then the property has been in the possession of but four families. Lawrence Lewis, husband of Nellie Custis Lewis, purchased it from the Washingtons in 1826, and the noted Nellie, granddaughter of Martha Washington by her first marriage, died here in 1852. A. Cummins purchased it from the Lewis family in 1903, and since 1921 it has been owned by Bernard B. and Montfort Jones." Published by Shenandoah Publishing House.
