Organized and elected Captain in Kanawha Riflemen, 1858. Entered Confederate service, April 18, 1861. Assigned to 22nd Regiment Virginia Infantry. Promoted for gallantry, to Major, Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel, in 1863. Several times wounded. Killed in Battle of Winchester, Virginia, September 19th, 1864.'
