Mathers started a newspaper in Morgantown during the Civil War in 1863, called the "Morgantown Herald". The newspaper had a short life of only a few weeks. "Factional strife" was responsible for its failure. Mr. Mathers died in Harrisville in 1909.</dc:description><dc:source>West Virginia History OnView</dc:source></oai_dc:dc>
