Strother, known by his pen name "Porte Crayon", was a famous 19th century artist, writer, explorer, Civil War soldier and diplomat. Identified in the photograph are center left to right: Jack Preble, three year-old David Hunter Strother IV and Porter Strother,(Porte Crayon's great-grandson and grandson).
