The core of structure was built in ca. 1810, which Tyree owned and operated the tavern from 1834-1883. Both Union and Confederate generals headquartered there during the Civil War and Julia Neale Jackson, mother of General "Stonewall" Jackson is buried on the property in Westlake Cemetery.
