Caption on back of postcard reads: "The Northwestern Turnpike, U.S. 50, was urged by George Washington in 1784 as an all-Virginia route to the Ohio. It was authorized in 1827, started in 1831 and completed to the Ohio River at Parkersburg in 1838. It is a monument to the skill of its engineers, Colonel Claudius Crozet, who had been an officer in Napoleon's army, and Charles Shaw." Published by Rex Heck News Company.
