- Description:
- The War Record has Humphreys enlisting twice at the age of 17 as a musician. First in Company K of the 22nd and in Company D of the 26th Infantry where he stayed. He was captured at the Battle of Lewisburg, May, 1862 when he chose to stay with his twin brother's dead body. Humphreys escaped from a POW camp and returned to his regiment. He is listed on the roll as a drummer and participated in several major battles such as Cold Harbor, Winchester and Cedar Creek.

- Description:
- McClung enlisted in Company A of the 14th Cavalry in May 1861 which was soon disbanded. He later enlisted in Company K in March, 1862. However by June, 1862 McClung had furnished a substitute and was discharged.

- Description:
- Stevens mustered into George B. Chapman's unit as a corporal and was later promoted to sergeant. Stevens recorded the following in his diary regarding the brutal fighting at the Third Battle of Winchester: "Great battle ... fought 11 hours. Early retreated with heavy loss in killed, wounded and captured. My gun expended 96 rounds of ammunition. Captain Chapman mortally wounded ...". Captain Chapman died 10 days later. He was 23 years old.
